The More You Know About SEO

Jenn Clark, the Co-owner of Planful, a Full- Service Marketing Agency in Indiana came Tuesday to present the topic SEO. You may be wondering what SEO stands for. Well, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. Again, you might be going “huh?” In short, it is a technique of using keywords to help boost the chances of being found online.

There is more to SEO than just lacing keywords throughout a website to help gear the search engine in the right direction. There are things to keep in mind while practicing SEO.

You should not use just one word repeatedly on a website. By doing that, search engines recognize it as spam. For example, if you help a local ma and pa pizza shop with their website and you only use “delicious” as your keyword, you’re in the end actually hurting the shop’s chance of being found online. You should use LSI, which is a great tool to give you synonyms for your keywords. Instead of just having delicious you can have keywords like savory, tasty, supreme, yummy, and the words you can use are infinite. By selecting keywords, your website will gain leverage over the competitors.

Clark discussed backlinks and guest posting. Backlinks are how they sound. You get posts that are made about your business or organization to have a link that will bring them back to your website. Guest posting can be beneficial for those who have blogs. You can reach out to other websites or blogs and create a connection by complimenting their content. You can see if they would be willing to post something about your blog, business, or organization. It could work both ways. You could offer the same for them. That guest posting is a way to build relationships, and at no cost, you can get your brand out there. Do be wary of who shares your content.

Your goal is to get your website to be in the top three searches. Once you hit that goal, you need to keep up with it and post at least every month to maintain your spot.
